A suspect has been arrested for selling imitation gems under the guise of selling real gems which had been obtained from a treasure trove in Kurunegala yesterday (Sept 15).
Upon questioning of the suspect, police had learnt that the fake gems made of plastic had been obtained from a land plot in Giriulla.
Further investigations had led to the arrest of two more suspects with four gold coloured Buddha statues and a broken brass lamp. The suspects have been identifed as those of ages 30, 36, and 52.
They are due to be produced before the Kurunegala Magistrate's Court today.
