Chilaw Assistant Police Superintendent Keerthi Bandara has been arrested for allegedly soliciting a bribe today (Nov 22).
The arrest had been carried out by officers attached to the Bribery and Corruption Commission.
The police officer had allegedly sought a bribe of Rs 200,000 from the owner of a temple in Chilaw, before being apprehended while obtaining Rs 190,000 of the total payment.
He is due to be produced before the Chilaw District Magistrate’s Court in the near future.
