Police investigations have been launched into two separate shootings which left two people dead and another injured yesterday (19).
In the first incident, two gunmen on a motorbike fired on the occupants of a car at Messenger Street in Armour Street last morning. A man and a woman who were inside the car were rushed to the Colombo National Hospital with gunshot wounds, but the male succumbed to his injuries.
The deceased was identified by police as Anthony Raj (42), a resident of Dematagoda. The injured female victim is his 38-year-old wife.
A motive for the shooting and the identify of the gunmen have still not been established. Armour Street Police are investigating.
In the second incident, an individual traveling on a motorbike was gunned down at Galwarusawa Road, in Athurugiriya last evening.
The 44-year-old victim was a resident of Kaduwela.
The gunmen had fled the scene after the incident and Athurugiriya Police are conducting further investigations.
