Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara has refuted reports that seven persons who had been arrested on terror charges in Jaffna recently had revealed information concerning an alleged VIP assassination plot.
In a media statement, Mr. Gunasekara noted that four suspects had been arrested following the arrest of Sinnaiyyah Sivaruban, the Judicial Medical Officer at the Pallai Hospital over terrorism charges this month.
The suspects are Sinnamani Daneshwaran, Rathnam Krishnaraja, Mohanasundaram Sinnathurai, and Vinayagamoorthi Nejilan. Two more persons identified as T. Nimalaraj and Ruban Jathusan had been arrested yesterday (Aug 28) upon information obtained from the JMO.
The spokesman noted that all seven suspects are being questioned by the Terrorist Investigation Division.
However, he stressed that they hadn't at any point revealed any matters on the alleged assassination plot of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and former Defence Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, as mentioned in several media reports.
