The Police Department has refuted social media reports of action being taken against drivers who relentlessly hooted horns while traffic was blocked to allow a VIP vehicle to pass through recently.
"There are social media reports claiming that the Police is tracking down these drivers using CCTV footage. We have no intention to take action against those drivers," Police Spokesman Ruwan Gunasekara told Times Online.
He added that the assistance of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) has been sought to locate individuals who are publishing or sharing such unverified reports on social media.
The Police Spokesman emphasised that the law would be enforced against such social media users who spread false content.
