Politicians should refrain from commenting on the probable Presidential Candidate to be nominated from the SLFP coalition since it is the party leaders who will decide on the matter, MP S B Dissanayake said.
"Whether it is Maithripala Sirisena, Mahinda Rajapaksa, Gotabhaya Rajapaksa or Chamal Rajapaksa is irrelevant" Mr. Dissanayake said at a media briefing while adding that the party must move forward with a Presidential candidate irrespective of who it is.
Further he said that the leaders of the parties constituting the alliance such as Maithripala Sirisena, Mahinda Rajapaksa, and Dinesh Gunawardena would make the final decision in this regard.
MP Dissanayake explained that commenting on the probable presidential candidate would result in creating room for a split between both factions.
"The SLFPers continue to claim that Maithripala Sirisena would be the presidential candidate. This would result in chaos due to the dissatisfaction of certain SLPPers" the parliamentarian said while pointing out that this was an unhealthy situation for the future of the alliance.
