Power failures have been reported in several places across seven districts after heavy winds uprooted trees and damaged electricity supply lines, the Power and Energy Ministry said.
These areas had been affected in the Matara, Galle, Kalutara, Kandy, Ratnapura, Nuwara Eliya and Colombo districts, a senior Ministry official said.
"The CEB is taking measures to restore these damaged power lines. However, repair work has been affected due to the inclement weather," Power and Energy Ministry Director Sulakshana Jayawardena told Times Online.
He noted that power failures were reported in several areas although it had not taken place on a large scale.
Meanwhile, water levels of the Kalu Ganga has risen due to heavy rains experienced during the day. Accordingly, minor flooding has been reported in the Ratnapura, Elapatha, Ayagama, and Kiriella areas.
Therefore, people residing in low lands have been advised to seek safer shelter by the Disaster Management Centre.
