Prepared to wear prison jumper - Speaker
Speaker Karu Jayasuriya said today that he was prepared to even wear a prison inmate's 'jumper' if it is proved he had helped forge the Parliament Hansard regarding the passage of the no confidence motion against Mahinda Rajapaksa and his Cabinet.
The Speaker made the statement in answer to a question raised by UNP MP S.M. Marikkar over allegations made by Pivithuru Hela Urumaya (PHU) Leader Udaya Gammanpila in the media that the Speaker had forged the hansard to make it seem as if the no confidence motion against Mahinda Rajapaksa had been passed. MP Gammanpila had stated in the media briefing that they would lodge a police complaint against the Speaker for preparing a forged official document.
Speaker Jayasuriya said he was prepared to wear a jumper for the sake of justice, adding that he had never forged any document in his life and was prepared to face any investigation into the matter.
