In the course of discussions between Speaker Karu Jayasuriya and President Sirisena which took place today regarding the current political deadlock, the President agreed to hold discussions with the Opposition Leader and leaders of the United National Front tomorrow (Nov 30) inorder to come to a resolution.
Following requests by several MPs in Parliament, Speaker Jayasuriya called on the President in order to discuss a feasible solution to the current impasse in the country.
During the discussion, the Speaker had pointed out the effects of the deadlock on the economy of the country in particular problems pertaining to the depreciation of the rupee and the tourism sector must be resolved with immediate effect.
President Sirisena, in response to the comments made by the Speaker had responded positively while ensuring that relevant measures would be taken in order to resolve the matter.
