President Maithripala Sirisena during his address to Parliament yesterday called on all political parties to contribute to the success of the national government.
“This country was ruled by two parties from time to time since it obtained independence. One party ruled the country for 35 years and the other for 32 years. I hope to change this political culture and replace that two party system by a government of consensus during my time,” the President said during his address to the House.
The ceremonial siting of the House was held at3.00p.m. today prior to which the President was accorded a guard of honour on his arrival at the Parliamentary complex followed by 21 gun salute.
