President Maithripala Sirisena visited the Asgiri temple in Kandy to call on the newly elected Mahanayaka of the Asgiriya Chapter, Most Ven. Warakagoda Dhamasiddi Pagnananda Gnanarathana Thero yesterday.
Expressing his views to the media the President said that Most Ven. Warakagoda Dahamasiddi Thero is rendering a great service to the society as well as for the Sasana and he is an exemplary character for the society to emulate. President Sirisena further said that he believes under the guidance and advices of the newly appointed Mahanayaka Thero, there will be a revitalization of the Sasana.
“It is the desire of the government to make the country economically prosperous with the inspiration of the Buddhist philosophy while nourishing the other religions as well.
President Maithripala Sirisena received blessing from worshipping the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic and later visited the Malwathu Maha Viharaya and called on Most. Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Nayake Thero.
Minister Wijayadasa Rajapaksha, Governor of the Central Province, Niluka Ekanayaka, Chief Minister of Central Province, Sarath Ekanayake and others participated in the event.
