President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (Jan 31) called on the general public to join hands with the SLFP in order to form a people's movement.
Addressing an event in Colombo, he said that although individuals with a conventional political mindset are talking about defeating political parties and politicians, it is only important to identify and defeat the unscrupulous pressure groups in the society which act against the country and its people.
"All political parties consist of politicians who are honest towards their country and otheriwse" President Sirisena said at the opening of the new SLFP District Secretariat at Ananada Rajakaruna Mawathe, Colombo 10.
While pointing out that government's similar to what were present in the late 1900's could not be formed now, the President also emphasised that it was important for the people who love this country to unite and be aware on how they could defeat certain selfish individuals.
He also called on the SLFPers to work tirelessly with the aim of creating a government which would work towards the development of the country.
