SLFP parliamentarian Dayasiri Jayasekara has said that the President has the power to decide on the members who will constitute his delegation on official visits.
While responding to UNP MP Harsha de Silva's tweet on the president's delegation, Mr. Jayasekara added that the President has the authority to meet state leaders and also discuss matters pertaining to the Singapore Free Trade Agreement (FTA).
Mr. De Silva on his official twitter handle had questioned the grounds on which opposition parliamentarians were chosen to form the President's delegation to Singapore - a visit during which revisions to the FTA had been suggested.
What a damn joke is this? This time President @MaithripalaS takes another bunch of opposition MPs who trashed #SriLanka Singapore FTA to discuss it w PM @leehsienloong and suggest revisions. I am embarrassed to say the least. @RW_UNP @sajithpremadasa pic.twitter.com/zsffB6yiSh

However, MP Jayasekara, claimed that the country has been affected due to several secret agreements signed by the UNP.
He also said that the President is not in favour of any agreement which will have a negative impact on the country.
