President condoles over Chennai flood victims
President Maithripala Sirisena has expressed his deepest condolences to those affected by floods in Chennai.
The President said the following ins a tweet, “My heart goes out to our neighbours in Chennai as they make it through this difficult time. #ChennaiFloods - Maithri"
Due to the heavy rains in Tamil Nadu, the death toll has reached 269.
Thousands of people have evacuated their homes and 20,000 people have been rescued, reports say.
