An extra-ordinary gazette notification has been issued declaring that the State of Emergency (Emergency Regulations) has been extended for another month.
The gazette has been issued by President's Secretary Udaya R. Seneviratne upon the instructions of President Maithripala Sirisena.
According to the gazette, the extension was declared in the best interest of public security in order to preserve public order in the country.
The State of Emergency was initially imposed on April 22 in the aftermath of the Easter Sunday attacks which shook the country on April 21.
