President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has drawn his attention towards setting up a national data centre to collect and store details pertaining to all citizens, the President's Office said.
The matter had figured during a meeting with officials from the Minister of Information & Communications Technology at the Presidential Secretariat today (Dec 30).
During the meeting, the President had highlighted that setting up a centre to accumulate the necessary data would be cost-effective while saving time.
He had pointed out that a better public service could be provided if all particulars are collected at one point instead of being stored at various departments.
President Rajapaksa had added that the circulation of false and inaccurate information too could be prevented as a result of this move.
Further, he had said that the people could be benefitted through an efficient public service if all ministries, departments, and semi-government bodies are intergrated with each other.
