President Maithripala Sirisena today (Dec 24) has informed all electoral organisers of the SLFP to prepare for the upcoming elections next year.
This was announced during discussions that took place between the President and SLFP electoral organisers at the Presidential Secretariat.
President Sirisena had said that the Provincial Council and the Presidential polls would be held next year while also citing a possibility of the general elections too to be held within the next 12 months.
During the meeting, the President had said that he would appoint new individuals in January to the position of electoral organisers which are vacant in certain areas.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa is due to vacate his official residence at Wijerama Mawatha, Colombo this morning, a Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) source said.
The Presidents’ Entitlements (Repeal) Bill was passed by a majority of 150 in parliament today. However the opposition MP’s were absent during the voting.
