President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has given instructions to state officials to disburse relief to those affected by floods and landslides, the President's Office said today (Dec 2).
Ministry officials, district and divisional secretaries, have been instructed to work in collaboration with the Defence Ministry and the Disaster Management Centre (DMC) to respond effectively to any natural disaster.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa will conduct the coordination and review of these relief programmes, the statment noted.
According to the DMC, more than 5,000 people have been affected due to the inclement weather after the North East monsoon made landfall last week.
