President Maithripala Sirisena has instructed security forces to release those who have been arrested over minor offences under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
Speaking at a National Security Committee meeting yesterday (Jun 20), the President had issued instructions to expedite investigations which are being carried out on the suspects.
Further, Mr. Sirisena had emphasised the importance of providing security to religious places of worship and public gatherings, the President's Media Division said.
Matters concerning the country's security and its current situation had also been extensively discussed at the meeting.
Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, senior Opposition parliamentarians, the Defence Secretary, Commanders of the Tri-Forces, Intelligence officers, and the Acting IGP were among those who attended the meeting.
