President Maithripala Sirisena in response to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya's letter has said that the latter had disregarded the constitution, standing orders, and parliamentary traditions.
President Sirisena in a letter to Mr. Jayasuriya had urged him to leave aside his political biases and act independently as a Speaker
He also noted that the no-confidence motion which was handed over to him earlier today carried a forged date while also adding that the signatures were not properly endorsed.
President Sirisena signed off by saying that it is the President who has the power to appoint the Prime Minister as per the constitution.
