President revokes land agreements allocated for BOI projects

President Maithripala Sirisena has revoked the agreement under which lands in Sampur were allocated for the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka to commence investment projects. These lands will be released for the resettlement of people who were displaced due to terrorist atrocities in the area. President Maithripala Sirisena signed the relevant Gazette Notification yesterday evening releasing the land in Sampur area for resettlement activities, the President s Office said. There were about 825 families displaced families were living in temporary shelter under trying conditions for more than 10 years in Sampur area. A new naval training camp with all modern facilities is to be set up in a new location. President Maithripala Sirisena yesterday (May 7) revoked the agreement under which lands in Sampur were allocated for the Board of Investment of Sri Lanka to commence investment projects. These lands will be released for the resettlement of people who were displaced due to terrorist atrocities in the area. President Maithripala Sirisena signed the relevant Gazette Notification yesterday evening releasing the land in Sampur area for resettlement activities. There were about 825 families displaced families were living in temporary shelter under trying conditions for more than 10 years in Sampur area. A new naval training camp with all modern facilities are to be put up in this new location for which the government is to set apart Rs. 150 to Rs. 200 million. The Treasury has already promised the Defence Ministry that it would allocate funds for the establishment of a modern Naval training facility in this new location. -Chandani Kirinde
