President Maithripala Sirisena arrived in New York to attend the United Nations (UN) 72nd General Assembly, local media reported.
The Summit which is currently underway at the UN Headquarters will be on till September 23 The President is due to address the General Assembly on September 19, tomorrow evening.
The General Debate will open with the focus on the theme, ‘Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet’. The President will also meet several world leaders on the sidelines of the summit.
