President Maithripala Sirisena celebrates his 67th birthday today.
Maithripala Sirisena was first elected to parliament from the Polonnaruwa district during the 1989 General Elections.He held several Ministerial portfolios from the 1994 People’s Alliance-led government.
The former General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, in 2014 defected from the then government and contested the 2015 Presidential Election.
He was elected as the Sixth Executive President of Sri Lanka in January 2015 after obtaining 62 million 17 thousand 162 votes.
