President Maithripala Sirisena has met with visiting Indian Defence Secretary Sanjay Mitra.
Mr. Mitra who is on a two-day visit to Sri Lanka had called on President Sirisena at his official residence in Colombo today (Apr 08).
During the discussion, the enhancement of cooperation in the defence and security sectors between the two countries was discussed according to the President's media division.
The President had appreciated the cooperation extended by the Indian government towards addressing security issues and also for the training provided to security forces personnel.
The President had also made a request to increase the number of Sri Lankan security personnel who are being trained in India.
Accordingly, an agreement was reached to increase the level of cooperation between both countries in terms of regional security, curbing drug smuggling and human trafficking and training of members of the security forces
The Indian Defence Secretary will also hold talks with his Sri Lankan counterpart Hemasiri Fernando, the President’s Media Division said.
