President Maithripala Sirisena will declare a 'Drug Prevention Week' from June 23 until July 1.
During this week, several rehabilitation and drug prevention programmes will be conducted across the country, an official at the Presidential Secretariat said
The Police Narcotics Bureau, National Dangerous Drugs Control Board, and the Presidential Task Force on Drug Prevention are expected to carry out these exercises.
Meanwhile, the President is also expected to introduce new laws on June 26 in order to counter the usage of narcotics.
These laws will be introduced in line with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
