President Maithripala Sirisena declared open the new building of the Sri Lanka Army Headquarters in Akuregoda, Pelwatta a short while ago today (Nov 8).
Construction activities of the building began on March 11, 2011, and was completed at a cost of Rs 53.3 billion.
The building would see the headquarters of the tri-forces being located in the same facility.
The Army Headquarters had incurred a monthly rent of Rs 50 million to locate its office in Colombo and its suburbs in the past.
