President Maithripala Sirisena will meet with representatives of social media organisations today (Apr 26) to discuss regarding the blockage of social media platforms in the country.
Social media has continued to remain blocked in a bid to prevent the spreading of false information in the aftermath of the recent terrorist attacks which claimed hundreds of lives on Easter Sunday.
Accordingly, President Sirisena told media heads at a briefing today that the government would seek support through these social media platforms to provide information on those involved in spreading false content leading to unwarranted panic and instability.
He also said that the government would be forced to maintain the blockage if the government is not able to curb the spread of misinformation and enforce the law against such suspects.
