Following the Court of Appeal's interim injunction, President Maithripala Sirisena, has told TNA MPs during a meeting today that he would take relevant action within the next 24 hours in a bid to resolve the present political deadlock.
The TNA taking to its Twitter handle (@TNAmediaoffice) said the President had made this statement while admitting that there was no Prime Minister or government at present.
The Appellate court today issued an interim order barring Mahinda Rajapaksa and his cabinet from functioning in their capacities as Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers until the court issues a final verdict on the writ quo warranto petition filed against them.
President Sirisena had also told TNA MPs that he would meet with the National Security Council and other relevant officials to resolve the matter pertaining to the release of Tamils who have been held in custody or detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
