President Gotabaya Rajapaksa has warned he would take legal action against individuals using his name to deceive people, the President's Media Division (PMD) said.
The PMD in a statement observed that certain individuals and groups have been attempting to defraud people by claiming to maintain close ties with the President.
These individuals had attempted to obtain favours from the public by promising to grant them positions and government appointments and even award them with project tenders.
"Some had claimed that they can influence the President to make certain decisions," the statement read.
It stressed the President believes that the government's activities should be carried out in line with the due procedure. "The President has not entertained the departure from the due process while granting appointments and tenders".
Accordingly, the Presidential Secretariat has urged the public to avoid being deceived by such individuals.
