This week Ambassador Cheng Xueyuan called upon President Maithripala Sirisena, and handed over a letter of greetings from President Xi Jinping ahead of the President's birthday which falls on September 3.
In the letter, President Xi congratulated his Sri Lankan counterpart on the latter's 67 th birthday, and appreciated the good working relations between them, a statement from the embassy of the people's Republic of China stated.
Further President Xi was quoted in the statement as saying, "I attach great importance to the development of our bilateral relations and would like to work together with you to further promote China-Sri Lanka Strategic Cooperative Partnership to a new height."
On the same day, President Sirisena replied a letter of thanks through the Chinese Embassy, and expressed deep gratitude to his Chinese counterpart for the warm greetings extended, the statement said.
