A principal of a leading school in Kuliyapitiya who was arrested on charges of sexual harrassment of a 17-year-old student has been remanded until March 01.
Police had today (Feb 26) informed court that the Principal had sexually harassed the girl on numerous occasions.
However, the attorney representing the accused had claimed that the incident was falsely plotted by a teacher who was vying for his position in the school management.
The attorney also claimed that the G.C.E. Ordinary Level examinations results of the students at the school had improved by 60 percent over the last one-and-a-half years during his clients tenure as Principal.
On the same lines he noted that the overall results of students had seen a 40 percent improvement during the said time frame.
The lawyer had also requested court to release the suspect on bail since there was a huge disparity between the date of the incident as claimed and the date on which the complainant had sought legal action.
