Investigations have been launched after two unidentified fishing boats were found from the Iranawila beach this morning (3).
A fisherman had seen the boats on the beach and notified police. The registration numbers on the two vessels had been erased, leading to suspicions that they may have been used for some illegal activity, police said.
Chilaw police even deployed a police sniffer dog to look for any leads.
Area residents say the vessels may have been used to smuggle some sort of illegal contraband to shore, which had then been picked up by a vehicle on the beach and transported inland.
