A probe has been launched into the incident invoving three Western province councillors who had reportedly watched pornographic content while the Council’s assembly was in progress yesterday (Nov 20).
The three individuals who are reported to be UPFA councillors by the names of Gunasiri Jayanath, Sumith Zoysa and Keerthi Kariyawasam are alleged to have watched pornographic content while yesterday’s budget reading was in progress.
Commenting on the incident, Chief Minister of the Western Province Isuru Sampath has said that strict disciplinary action would be enforced on the councillors if they were found guilty of misusing state property.
He had also told local media that steps have been taken to block access to pornographic and social media websites from the computers of the Western Provincial Council (WPC) Chamber
Meanwhile, Western province councillor Lalith Ellawela has said that those involved in the incident must resign from their positions if their conscience accepts the wrongdoing.
The WPC was recently refurbished at a cost of Rs 6.5 billion. Thereby, the council was upgraded with latest computers which included internet browsing facilities.
