Proposal for ambulances to travel free on expressways

Health Minister Dr Rajitha Senaratne states that he plans to submit a Cabinet Memorandum making it possible for ambulances to travel along expressways toll free. 

Speaking after conducting an inspection visit to Puttalam Base Hospital, the Health Minister pointed out that currently, health workers traveling in the ambulance have to pay the vehicle's toll charges when an ambulance travels on the expressway. As such, attention has been drawn towards drafting a national policy on the matter and presenting a Cabinet Memorandum on the subject. 

He also discussed the shortage of nurses at the Puttalam Base Hospital. The Minister again instructed officials to take steps to transfer excess nursing staff from Kurunegala district to Puttalam.
