A proposal will be put forward in Parliament on Oct 23, to remove the carbon tax levied on motor vehicles, Finance Minister Mangala Samaraweera said today (Oct 17).
Addressing a news conference, Minister Samaraweera noted that steps would be taken to that effect in keeping with a pledge made by ruling party Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa.
The government, in its annual budget this year, had decided to impose carbon tax on vehicles under three categories.
The tax fee was differed from vehicles used for less than five years, between 5 - 10 years, and more than 10 years.
