A protest has been held in Leicester against violence directed at Muslims in Sri Lanka, according to the publication the Leicester Mercury.
Members of the city’s 400 family Sri Lanka community gathered in Humberstone Gate at lunchtime yesterday to call for an end to the rioting that has engulfed parts of the country in recent days.
According to the report more than 100 people took part in the noisy protest chanting “Justice” and carrying placards calling for peace.

Mohamad Ismail, of the Leicester Sri Lankan Muslim Society, said most of the demonstrators had family in Sri Lanka and were worried out their safety.
He told the publication “We have all been watching the footage with great concern.
“I have had three sleepless night. In my home town a young boy has been killed and businesses have been burned.
“We feel the Government needs to do much more to restore peace.
“That is why we have come out here today - to raise awareness.”
