President Maithripala Sirisena has requested to stop live streaming proceedings of the Parliamentary Select Committee probing the Easter Sunday attacks.
The request by the President's Office had been made to Speaker Karu Jayasuriya today (May 31), a Presidential Secretariat official said.
Mr. Sirisena is reported to have made this request to prevent content being misinterpreted by the media since intelligence officers are expected to testify before the Committee.
It is also said that intelligence officials had requested the President to stop live streaming the inquiry since they cannot divulge vital information owing to life threats which they could receive due to extensive media coverage.
Accordingly, journalists are expected to be provided with a guideline by the Parliament while providing media coverage to the sittings of the Committee.
The Sitting Committee is set to conduct its next session on June 04.
