Government will seek support from the public-private partnership (PPP) to extend the prevailing forest density from 29 per cent to 32 per cent, Deputy Minister of Mahaweli Development and Environment Anuradha Jayarathne said.
Addressing a discussion at the Sri Lanka Mahaweli Authority auditorium recently to determine the local contribution for the Global Climate Change, he said a special attention will be focused on Power, transport, industry, garbage management, and air emission when the new programs are planned for the above purpose.
President Maithripala Sirisena in April this year signed a United Nation’s agreement on climate change. It has recommended to Sri Lanka to present its future plans before September. These plans will be included in the PPP assistance.
In accordance with President Sirisena’s view, these plans will be implemented through the Provincial Councils and Local Government authorities.
