The Ministry of Defence (MOD) has warned that severe measures will be taken under the Emergency Regulations against individuals, groups or organisations which spread content that incite hatred or communal violence.
The law would be enforced to its fullest extent against individuals who publish such footage or make such statements in press briefings, Army Spokesman Brigadier Sumith Atapattu said in a release issued by the media centre of the MOD.
Brigadier Atapattu noted that strict measures would be taken under the Emergency Regulations against persons, groups or organisations which spread unverified news stories and gossip.
Similar action would be taken against those who make statements or engage in certain acts which mislead the security forces, the Army Spokesman said.
Therefore, the Defence Ministry has severely warned the public to refrain from engaging in such acts.
