Legal action will be taken against the Power and Energy Ministry if power supply is interrupted today (Mar 25), Corporate Communications Director of the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka (PUCSL) Jayanat Herath told Times Online.
Mr. Herath pointed out that according to an agreement signed between the PUCSL and the Power and Energy Ministry, the former is vested with the power to declare the schedule for power cuts.
As such, the Ministry's schedule which was released yesterday cannot be implemented today since it is a violation of the agreement between both entities, the PUCSL official stressed.
He also insisted that the Ministry must have obtained permission from the PUCSL prior to releasing the schedule yesterday.
Against this backdrop, a special meeting will be convened by the PUCSL along with the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and the Ministry of Power and Energy today.
