The Railway Engine Drivers Union launched a strike at midnight (Mar 08) demanding that two of their issues be resolved with immediate effect.
"The strike is being staged since resthouses for railway drivers are not equipped with sufficient facilities. It is against this backdrop that the authorities are planning to abolish the employees duty rosters at the resthouses," Indika Dodangoda, Secretary, Railway Engine Drivers Union said.
He noted that railway guards will also join hands in the strike which was organised to demand that these issues be resolved.
