Railway trade unions including the Locomotive Engineering Operators’ Union have decided to launch a 48-hour token strike from midnight, over several demands including concerns surrounding salary anomalies.
According to local media reports the railway operators, drivers, station masters, railway controllers and supervisory managers will also withdraw from services.
Further the reports suggested that while a special cabinet-approved committee had agreed to resolve several issues in the industry and also to address concerns surrounding salary anomalies, the Sarath Amunugama-Committee had failed to implement its proposals.
