Opposition Leader Mahinda Rajapaksa has condemned the usage of teargas to disperse crowds at a protest organised by unemployed graduates yesterday (Feb 13).
Issuing a special statement, Mr. Rajapaksa said that the government must hold urgent talks with representatives of the Unemployed Graduates' Union in a bid to provide a feasible solution to the latter.
The former President also justified yesterday's protest march by stating that these graduates had passed out from their universities amidst several hardships that supersede the problems of the general public.
"It is the prime duty of the government to provide them jobs" Rajapaksa pointed out.
He reiterated that attempting to attack or harass these students who are demanding for their rights by requesting employment, was not acceptable under any circumstances.
