Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has congratulated US President Donald Trump over the recent operation in the fight against terror.
The Islamic State leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, was killed in a raid by US special forces on his Syrian safe house, foreign media reported yesterday (Oct 27).
President Donald Trump made this announcement, ending a years-long hunt for one of the world’s most-wanted terrorists.
"The ISIS group which recently claimed a strike on Sri Lanka has been creating fear and terror around the world," Wickremesinghe said in a congratulatory video message on his Twitter handle.
"This successful operation makes the world a safer place."
The Easter Sunday terrorist attacks in Sri Lanka on April 21, for which the ISIS terror group claimed responsibility, left more than 250 killed and around 500 injured.
I congratulate President Trump on the successful operation in the fight against terror. This would undoubtedly cause a set back to the ISIS group and help make the world a safer place. pic.twitter.com/trI0KNZ56o
