Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe has decided to meet president-elect Gotabhaya Rajapaksa, after he takes oaths tomorrow, to discuss matters concerning his premiership.
A decision in this regard had been reached during a meeting with Democratic National Front (DNF) party leaders and cabinet ministers today (Nov 17), sources at the Prime Minister's Office said.
Wickremesinghe is expected to discuss whether the United National Front government should sit in the Opposition paving the way to appoint a new Prime Minister, or whether Parliament should be dissolved at the earliest.
Rajapaksa was elected as Sri Lanka's Seventh Executive President today, amassing more than 6.9 million votes, while beating 34 other candidates in the fray including ruling party candidate Sajith Premadasa.
