Ven Athuraliye Rathana Thera has ended his hunger strike which began last Friday after two Governors resigned from their positions today (June 03).
He was seen taken to the Kandy General Hospital in an ambulance after he called off his strike today.
The Thera's fast unto-death campaign was staged in order to demand the resignation and removal of Minister Rishad Bathiudeen along with Eastern Governor M.L.A.M. Hizbullah and Western Governor Azath Salley.
Following sporadic protests in the country, Governors Hizbullah and Salley stepped down in their country this afternoon, the President's Media Division said.
The message on the resignation was conveyed to Rathana Thero by Central Province Governor Maithree Gunaratne after President Maithripala Sirisena accpeted the resignation letters today.
Meanwhile, Muslim ministers are set to convene a press briefing at 3:30 pm and are expected to announce certain crucial decisions concerning their portfolios.
