A private member's bill to abolish Islamic child marriages in the country will be submitted to Parliament next week, MP Athuraliye Rathana Thera said.
He made these remarks while addressing a press briefing in Matara.
The Thera stated that the bill would propose to grant religious freedom instead of forcing a person to follow Islam as a result of marriage.
He also urged that a strong government must be formed after the presidential polls and child marriages to be declared as an offence.
