Ravi should not act as UNP Assistant Leader - Marapana Committee

Former Minister Ravi Karunanayake should not exercise any duties as Assistant Leader of the United National Party (UNP) until further notice, the committee headed by Minister Thilak Marapana has recommended. 

The committee was appointed by UNP Leader and Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to examine the report submitted by the Commission of Inquiry into the Treasury Bond Issue.

UNP General Secretary Kabir Hashim, in a statement today revealed that the committee had recommended that steps should be taken to ensure that Mr Karunanayake should not exercise any duties as UNP Assistant Leader until a finality is reached by the Attorney General and / or the Bribery Commission that no legal action is to be filed against Mr Karunanayake or if such action is instituted, until the conclusion of such action.
