The Road Development Authority (RDA) has decided to install road reflector lights to assist drivers and prevent accidents aling the Southern Expressway.
Some accidents along the Expresway have been caused since drivers have been distracted by the headlights of vehicles travelling in the opposite direction, the RDA said.
Accordingly, reflector lights will be installed along the Southern Expressway running between Gelanigama and Dodangoda, as a pilot project. This road stretch spans between 24 to 26 kilometres.
These lights will be installed at a distance of around one metre from each light, the RDA's Expressway Operations and Maintenance Director Saman Opanayake said.
Mr. Opanayake noted that these lights will be made out of fibre glass and would be lit up in dark green to assist drivers.
Following the pilot project, these lights are to be installed along the Southern Expressway from Kottawa to Matara spanning 126 kilometres.
