Registration for all chain saw machines will be open from today (Feb 20) until the end of this month, Police Spokesman S.P. Ruwan Gunasekara said.
Accordingly, all companies and individuals in possession of such machines must produce their chain saws before the police stations in their respective localities following which an application would be issued by the Police.
After having submitted the application, Police would take measures to issue a permit along with a sticker to certify the registration of the machine.
These stickers which were issued by the Ministry of Defence have been distributed among all police stations by the Police Headquarters, the police spokesman noted.
He added that this mechanism is being implemented upon an instruction issued by President Maithripala Sirisena in a bid to reduce deforestation.
